Maatrubhumi Star Salman Khan Feels Ranbir Kapoor's Ramayana Should Be Discussed For Characters And Not Rs 4000 Crore BudgetNov 6, 2026, 18:49 IST
Salman Khan Feels Discusses Ranbir Kapoor's Ramayana Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana: Rise Of A Legend arrived in cinemas worldwide on November 5. Featuring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Yash as Ravana, the ambitious two-part adaptation has been one of the most talked-about Indian film projects. While its reported Rs 4,000 crore budget has attracted considerable attention, Salman Khan feels the conversation should be centred on the epic itself. Interestingly, Salman also drew a comparison between the qualities associated with Lord Ram and those of his character in Maatrubhumi. When asked about the timing of his film's release in relation to Ramayana, he explained how the character he plays embodies several qualities associated with the revered figure. "See, what all qualities did Ram ji have? Best husband, best son, best father, best warrior, best brother. These all were the qualities, and this character (his character in Maatrubhumi) possesses the same qualities," he said. The actor also revealed that he had watched Ramanand Sagar's iconic television adaptation of the epic. "Ramanand Sagar Sir’s Ramayana, I have watched," he said. Salman further recalled an interesting incident from nearly two decades ago when he and his brother were supposed to make a film based on Ramayana. Recalling how the media reacted to the announcement, he said, "20 years ago, we were supposed to do Ramayana and then the previous generation of the press, they captured me and my brother exiting from a place at late night after announcing the film. But your press placed two crowns on our heads (tilted head gesture) and it was written, ‘He’s our Ram, and he’s our Laxman.’ So, we shelved our film right there." Apart from discussing Ramayana, Salman also announced the new theatrical release date of Maatrubhumi: May War Rest In Peace. The film, directed by Apoorva Lakhia, will now arrive in cinemas on December 4, 2026. It also features Chitrangda Singh, Mukesh Rishi, Ankur Bhatia, Zeyn Shaw and Abhilash Chaudhary in important roles, while Vijay Raaz serves as the narrator.
