'Dates May Be Shifted': India-Bangladesh Series Likely To Be Postponed Again
India are set to play three ODIs and as many T20Is in Bangladesh, with the first ODI scheduled on September 3; however, the tour is very likely to be postponed for the second time as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) continue to discuss the schedule. The series was initially planned last year in August, but was postponed amid security concerns. More so, the relationship between the boards reached its lowest point when Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) released Mustafizur Rahman from the IPL, and later Bangladesh refused to send its team to India for the T20 World Cup citing security concerns. Things, however, improved when Tamim Iqbal was appointed as the BCB President in June. Just weeks before the first ODI, Tamim Iqbal announced the schedule for the age-group tournament, the Game Development Trophy, with all matches to be held at the Shere Bangla National Stadium from August 28 to September 9. When asked if the tournament confirmed that the India tour is postponed again, Tamim said that the dates of the tour can be shifted. He added that once the schedule is finalised, the Game Development Trophy can be moved to another venue even at short notice. "Both boards remain in discussion about the India series," Tamim said at the press conference. "The dates may be shifted here or there. This tournament is being held in Mirpur, but it can be shifted to the Basundhara ground in two minutes. If the India series is locked and fixed, we will schedule it accordingly." "Bangladesh's series against India, the excitement is at a different level, I'm sure from journalists, from fans, cricketers, everyone. Bangladesh is an extremely safe country, and I am very hopeful that they will come. Whatever steps need to be taken from our side, we are trying," he said.
