Meghna Gulzar and Kareena Kapoor weigh in on navigating through conflicts in Daayra National Award-winning director Meghna Gulzar has chosen one of the toughest subjects to explore in her upcoming directorial, Daayra. Exploring the grey area between law and justice, the filmmaker tells a poignant story through the lenses of DCP Ajooni Kohli and DCP Raman Kumar. Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran bring them to life with a sensitive approach. Ahead of Daayra’s release, Meghna, Kareena and Prithviraj attended a press conference in Delhi where they interacted with members of the media. The director, when asked about the challenges of taking sides without being incorrect, said it was difficult to do that, but that’s the purpose of the film. Meghna said at the press conference, “As a filmmaker and the director of Daayra, it was difficult for me to pick sides because morals dilemma is overlapping on both (sides) - law and delivery of justice. It is difficult to pick sides and therefore raise questions – how do we make it easier? That is the purpose.” Kareena was asked about the conflict between her personal choices and Ajooni’s perspectives. She said, “At this point, jaise Gulzar sahab ne kahan, ‘sach ka daayra badalte rehta hai’. For me, it is difficult to be on the same track with Ajooni, because we have conflicts. As a director, for Meghna to write characters like Ajooni and Raman, it is difficult. As a person, I will walk a straight line, and I believe life is black and white. In the film, it is grey.” Daayra, directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Meghna Gulzar, follows the story of DCP Ajooni Kohli and DCP Raman Kumar. Kareena’s DCP Ajooni Kohli is a police officer who believes in the rule of law. She investigates an encounter involving another senior police officer. DCP Raman Kumar represents a far more uncompromising idea of justice. The encounter at the centre of the trailer immediately makes his character the subject of debate. Inspired by true events, Daayra, produced by Junglee Pictures and Pen Studios, delves into a complex crime through two perspectives, exploring emotions, perceptions and the many shades of truth.
