Preity Zinta, Suniel Shetty, Rupali Ganguly join CBFC board The Government of India has reconstituted the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with immediate effect for a period of three years or until further orders, whichever is earlier. The reconstitution has been carried out by the Central Government in exercise of the powers conferred under sub-section (1) of Section 3 of the Cinematograph Act, 1952, read with Rule 3 of the Cinematograph (Certification) Rules, 2024. The reconstituted Central Board of Film Certification comprises 18 members. The decision has been made after recent films underwent multiple cuts before receiving a certificate. The 18-member board includes mainstream actors Manoj Joshi, Suniel Shetty, Preity Zinta, Pankaj Tripathi and Prosenjit Chatterjee, filmmaker Priyadarshan, musician Ricky Kej, Vinod Anupam, Abhishek Jain, Hansraj Hans, Supriya Yarlagadda, Yatindra Mishra, Rupali Ganguly, Neela Madhab Panda, Pallavi Joshi, Nishigandha Wad, Waman Kendre, and Ramesh Patange. A source from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting informed NDTV that, "The reconstitution had been pending for some time, with some members of the previous board no longer active and the terms of some others having passed away.” The ministry further added that the reconstitution was carried out "in exercise of the powers conferred under sub-section (1) of Section 3 of the Cinematograph Act, 1952, read with Rule 3 of the Cinematograph (Certification) Rules, 2024." The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) was last reconstituted in 2017. The board members were Vidya Balan, Waman Kendre, Vivek Agnihotri, Mihir Bhutia, Ramesh Patange, Gautami Tadimalla, Vani Tripathi Tikoo, Jeevitaa Rajashekhar, T.S. Nagabharana and Naresh Chandra Lal. Prasoon Joshi was the chairperson. For the past couple of months, the CBFC has been scanning every film for violence, vulgarity, obscenity and political contexts. From Jana Nagayan’s delay to Satluj being pulled from ZEE5 within 24 hours, the board was in the limelight. Not just Indian films, the CBFC was instructing modifications in Hollywood titles that released in the country. It also included the blockbuster psychological thriller Obsession that garnered global attention.
