Want To Be Independent In Your 20s? Shobhit Nirwan Shares 5 Skills To LearnOct 9, 2026, 11:09 IST
Mastering communication, managing finances, selling effectively, learning continuously, and deciding prudently are the five skills that can help one become independent in their 20s, according to educator Shobhit Nirwan. In his latest LinkedIn post, he says that independence is not about “needing nobody”; rather, it is “becoming capable enough to handle more of your own life”. Shobhit says that one should learn to elucidate what they think, ask better questions, and make people understand their value, as a lack of effective communication can make even a good skill look average. He stresses that one must know where their money is going, how to save it, and how to make it grow, cautioning that earning more without understanding money results in high expenditure. As a young adult vying for high school grades, an internship or a job, one must learn how to sell an idea, a skill, a product, or oneself. “Selling isn't manipulation. It's helping someone understand why something is worth paying for,” he says. On learning, the educator suggests grasping how to find reliable information instead of merely collating it. “Don't just collect information; learn how to find reliable information, apply it, get feedback, and improve, which makes any new skill easier to acquire,” he says. Lastly, Shobhit says that life compounds through decisions and that one should learn to make them with incomplete information, accept the consequences, and adjust when they're wrong. These five skills, according to the educator, help young people in their 20s become independent. If they manage to nurture these skills in the most crucial phase of their lives, their dependence on others would eventually shrink. Disclaimer: This article summarises a post by Shobhit Nirwan.
