India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) recorded a historic milestone in October, with its average daily transaction value crossing Rs 1 lakh crore for the first time. The cumulative value of transactions processed through the digital payments platform reached Rs 31.53 lakh crore during the month, surpassing the Rs 30 lakh crore mark for the first time. The increase was partly driven by higher consumer spending during the festive season, when purchases across retail, e-commerce and other segments typically see an uptick. UPI also crossed the Rs 30 lakh crore monthly transaction value milestone for the first time. The previous highest monthly transaction value was Rs 29.9 lakh crore, recorded in May 2026. According to data available with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), India's most popular digital payments platform processed 25.47 billion transactions in October, averaging 821 million transactions a day. UPI's previous highest average daily transaction volume was recorded in September at 802 million, while the highest monthly transaction volume stood at 24.5 billion, recorded in August.
