Mumbai Indians Drop Subtle Hint On Rohit Sharma's Return As Captain For IPL 2027
Rohit Sharma is rumoured to be in line to become Mumbai Indians captain in IPL 2027 |Courtesy - BCCI/IPL Mumbai Indians (MI) dropped a subtle hint through a social media post about Rohit Sharma's return as captain for the 2027 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The post came hours after reports in the media claimed that the five-time IPL-winning captain will take charge of the franchise once again and replace Hardik Pandya in the top job. For those unversed, Hardik's future has been in doubt ever since the 2026 season ended, in which MI finished 9th. Since the star all-rounder took charge of the franchise, they have failed to qualify in two of the three seasons, with a wooden spoon finish in 2024. They were knocked out in the second qualifier in 2023. MI put up a post that indicated Rohit as the 'King' of the franchise. The same image also called Jasprit Bumrah a 'Lion', Trent Boult 'Lightning ', and Tilak Varma as 'Star ', which are the common nicknames of the players. Fans were quick to react and it was universally seen as a suggestion as Rohit's return to captaincy. Rohit Sharma has a remarkable legacy as the captain, having led MI for a decade between 2013 and 2023. He led the franchise to each of its five IPL titles in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020. He is the joint-most successful captain in the history of the league alongside MS Dhoni, who also captained Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to five titles. Meanwhile, Rohit also captained India on a full-time basis between 2021 and 2025 and led India to the 2024 T20 World Cup and 2025 Champions Trophy. Meanwhile, the Men in Blue also played the 2023 World Cup final under his leadership. Rohit and Dhoni are the only Indian captains to lift multiple ICC trophies in history.
