Sukhu announced the initiative after a delegation from the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois, led by Manuraj Sood, met him on Monday. The delegation held discussions with the chief minister on strengthening medical education, research and healthcare infrastructure in the state. Himachal Pradesh, University Of Illinois To Strengthen Academic Collaboration The chief minister said the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) previously signed with the university would be implemented effectively to improve the quality of medical education in Himachal Pradesh. Under the collaboration, both sides will exchange academic resources, research publications, teaching materials and technical knowledge. The partnership is also expected to create opportunities for students and faculty members to understand international approaches to medical education and healthcare delivery. The state government will explore the adoption of medical technologies, equipment and best practices followed by the University of Illinois to strengthen medical education and healthcare services. Sukhu emphasised the need to promote research in medical education, strengthen telemedicine services and encourage the use of advanced cancer treatment technologies and artificial intelligence (AI). He said the government would extend necessary support to facilitate the collaboration and introduce modern practices in the state's medical institutions. The exchange programme is expected to provide medical students with international academic exposure while helping faculty members gain insights into developments in medical research, specialised healthcare and emerging technologies. The collaboration could also support knowledge-sharing between institutions in Himachal Pradesh and the US, with the broader objective of improving medical education and healthcare delivery in the state. The announcement reflects Himachal Pradesh's efforts to strengthen international academic partnerships and provide students and medical professionals with greater exposure to developments in global healthcare.
