(Credit: Instagram) The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Joseph Vijay, has again made a big decision for the filmmakers of Kollywood. The former actor and politician has restored the early morning shows for upcoming Tamil films in Tamil Nadu during their first week in cinemas. He has passed an order, in which CM Vijay mentioned that theatres can schedule five shows a day in the first week. The first show can begin at 6 am and end the fifth show by 2:30 am. Moreover, he has also told the theatre owners that they can screen six shows on weekends, national holidays and state holidays. According to CM Vijay’s latest order, the new rule will be implemented from this Friday (November 6). For the unversed, Suriya’s Scene and Nayanthara’s Mookuthi Amman 2 are scheduled to be released this week. These two films will benefit from the decision. Currently, Tamil Nadu theatres are screening four shows a day, with the first one starting at 9 am. The new order will allow exhibitors to add early morning shows for new Tamil films during their opening week. For the unversed, early morning shows were banned by the DMK-led government after a fan died during celebrations for Ajith Kumar’s Thunivu outside Rohini Silverscreen. Since then, the government had maintained strict rules on film show timings. The rule was passed under the Tamil Nadu Cinemas (Regulation) Rules, 1957, and in accordance with Condition 14-A of the ‘Form C’ license issued to cinema theatres. The new rules have been passed by the Tamil Nadu CM after receiving various requests from the Tamil Film Active Producers Association, the Tamil Film Producers Council and the Tamil Nadu Theatre and Multiplex Owners Association. Their requests included a permission for six shows per day during the first week of a film’s release. Producer-distributor G. Dhananjheyan revealed the information on social media and thanked CM Vijay and Raj Mohan for passing an order. In his tweet, the producer said, “We made the request on 27th Oct to the Hon. Minister Thiru @imrajmohan sir and within a week, he obtained the permission from our Hon @CMOTamilnadu Thiru @TVKVijayHQ sir for the 6 am special shows - a true example for a responsive government for the welfare of its people and industries. Thank you #CMVijay sir & thank you #Rajmohan sir for this quick response and Government Order. We at Tamil Cinema wish to express our gratitude to both of you for this great support.” On the occasion of Diwali 2026, Suriya’s Scene and Nayanthara’s Mookuthi Amman 2 are releasing in theatres on November 6, 2026. Apart from that, Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash’s Ramayana Part 1 is also releasing in theatres on November 5. The film will be released in Tamil as well.
