Sonia Balani on playing Urmila in Ramayana: Part 1 - EXCL Talking about challenging faced while playing Urmila, Sonia said, "I'll be very honest. By far, this is the most difficult role. Whatever roles I've been offered before, this was the most challenging role that I've been offered. There was not much available on her first. Second, it's no even fiction that I can use my imagination fully. I have to do justice to whatever is written already, how much ever less it is." The actress added that one can create from their imagination in fiction and shoot it. However, for her Ramayana role, the actress had to stick to whatever was written. "Considering it was very less, I used to write letters actually. I journal a lot as Sonia. So, I started journaling as Urmila for quite some time. That really helped. In fact, a lot of things changed inside her when she jorunaled as her character. "I used to walk like Urmila. I started wearing Indian often, which I don't usually. I started putting bindi. Becuase in that era, you walk very slow and you talk very slow. And I walk very fast. I also talk very fast. This was something that Nitesh sir always used to tell us on set." The Ramayana actress shared that Nitesh would tell the cast to walk and talk slowly. And that gave her a good perspective of that era and how people interacted earlier.
