Ram Temple
Ayodhya: In the Ayodhya Ram Mandir donation theft case, the special investigation team (SIT) will now scrutinize the audits conducted by the temple trust over the past five years. In view of suspected large-scale irregularities in the donation funds detected during the preliminary investigation, the SIT will conduct a detailed scrutiny of every financial transaction, sources told Times Now. As part of this exercise, the SIT will identify lapses, irregularities, or shortcomings in the audit process. Notably, the SIT has also recovered some crucial evidence during the probe. Senior office-bearers of the Temple Trust could come under the scanner as the investigation progresses, the sources further claimed. The SIT will also examine construction-related works undertaken by the trust. The SIT is scheduled to submit its report to the Uttar Pradesh government on July 15. During its preliminary inquiry, the SIT examined the criminal aspects of the case, based on which an FIR was registered. According to sources, SIT officials have been continuously stationed in Ayodhya and are collecting evidence. Last week, Rai and Mishra had tendered their resignations. However, under by-laws, a two-thirds majority in the trust is required to accept a resignation. Under these rules an office-bearer can only be relieved of their post and responsibilities. Even if Rai's resignation is accepted, he will continue to remain a member of the trust. At present, two of the trust's 14 members have already resigned. Therefore, the opinions of the remaining 12 trustees will be considered during the meeting. Earlier, sources also told Times Now that Ayodhya police is mulling to handover the probe to the Enforcement Directorate if the amount of recovery money increases.
