All schools in Palghar district will remain closed on July 2 Several districts of Maharashtra have been experiencing heavy rainfall since the beginning of the month. Keeping this in mind, some districts have directed schools to remain closed to ensure students remain safe in their houses amid such extreme weather conditions. Referring to the Disaster Management Act, 2005, the School Education Department's circulars, and the latest weather forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Raigad district administration announced a holiday for schools in selected talukas. IMD forecast issued on July 1, stated that the Raigad district is expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall at several places and extremely heavy rainfall at isolated locations between July 1 and July 3, 2026. Similarly, Palghar district is likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall at several places, with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated locations. So, in view of the continuous rainfall and the possibility of severe weather, the Tehsildars of Alibag, Panvel, Uran, Shrivardhan, Tala, Mangaon, Mahad, Mhasla and Poladpur recommended that schools remain closed as a precautionary measure. After considering the prevailing weather conditions, the District Collector has ordered that all primary, secondary and higher secondary schools in the talukas of Alibag, Panvel, Uran, Shrivardhan, Mhasla, Tala and Poladpur will remain closed on July 2, 2026. However, headmasters, teachers and non-teaching staff must report to their respective schools/ offices and remain available to carry out disaster management duties and comply with directions issued by the local administration. "Due to a heavy rainfall alert and continuous rain over the past several hours, the Palghar and Raigad administrations have declared a holiday for all schools today, July 2," an official notification read. "Authorities have also advised people to step out only if absolutely necessary and urged them to remain alert in view of the prevailing weather conditions." Heavy rain lashed parts of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) on Thursday morning. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Delhi-NCR, forecasting moderate spells of rain, thunderstorms, and lightning in Delhi NCR. However, as of now, no school closure announcements have been made by the Delhi government, the Gautam Buddh Nagar administration, or even the Gurugram district administration.
