UGC NET Sociology Exam Faces Criticism as Candidates Claim Paper Was Filled With Errors The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted the UGC NET June 2026 examination from June 22 to June 30, 2026, in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode. While it seemed that the exams were conducted smoothly, a recent tweet by a candidate alleging that the June 30 exam was riddled with spelling errors has raised concerns. Antara Chakrabarty, a X user who is a PhD Sociology candidate has alleged that the Sociology exam held on June 30, 2026 "had terrible spelling errors and grammatically disastrous sentence formation". She has claimed that A R Desai was mentioned as ‘A K Desai’, ‘social’ was written as ‘oval’, and much more. "50% of the paper had terrible spelling errors and grammatically disastrous sentence formation. Thinkers like ‘Ritzer’ was replaced as ‘Putzer’, ‘social’ was given as ‘oval’, ‘Parsons’ as ‘Parsow’, ‘Ghurye’ as ‘Ghunye’, A R Desai as ‘A K Desai’, ‘Nussbaum’ as ‘Nusbaut’ and many more," the X user claimed. She also claimed that the "Hindi translation of the questions were framed as if translated by a 5 year old". She further added that due to these errors "students could not even understand the questions, let alone attempt them. Half the time went in literally making sense of what nonsense was scribbled in the name of a paper like NET which is literally supposed to make you eligible for Asst Prof/PhD admissions." These allegations were supported by another X user '@janwangnao' who also claimed that the question paper was filled with spelling errors. "UGC-NET Sociology paper raises serious questions about the academic standards of the NTA. A paper filled with spelling errors, arbitrary questions, and the omission of many foundational sociological thinkers in favor of content that appeared outside the prescribed syllabus,' she tweeted. The user also questioned a question asking candidates to arrange former education ministers in chronological order, arguing that it did not meaningfully assess critical thinking in sociology. The UGC-NET (University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test) determines the eligibility of Indian nationals for Assistant Professor positions, the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), and PhD admissions in Indian universities and colleges. The UGC NET June 2026 examination was conducted from June 22 to June 30, 2026. First shift of the exam was held from 9 am to 12 pm, and the second shift was held from 3 pm to 6 pm.
