Virat Kohli will make his return against NZ. Photo: BCCI Virat Kohli will make his on-field return in the away series against New Zealand, starting November 4. The former India captain is now active only in ODI cricket and has long breaks after every series. He hasn't played professional cricket since the ODI series against West Indies, which ended on October 3. Kohli returned to India a couple of weeks ago and trained in India. He has participated in a few practice sessions since landing in the country. All eyes will be on Kohli, who is on his last NZ tour as a player. Kohli is close to overtaking Viv Richards and he can go past the West Indies legend during the five-match series. The former India captain has scored 16759 runs in 353 List A matches. Richards finished his career with 16995 runs. Kohli is only 237 runs away from overtaking WI, who played his last List A game in 1993. Kohli has 60 centuries and 88 fifties. He is only one ton away from becoming the batter with the most List A runs. He hasn't scored a double-century in his List A career. Richards finished his List A career with 26 centuries and 109 fifties. Graham Gooch tops the list of batters with the most List A runs. The England legend scored 22211 runs in 613 games he played. He hit 44 centuries. Gooch is followed by Graeme Hick, who scored 22059 runs. India legend Sachin Tendulkar finished his career with 21999 runs. He played his last List A game in 2012. Sachin finished his ODI career with 18426 runs, the most by any batter in the format. The India-New Zealand ODI series will kick off on November 4. The next four games will be played on November 7, 10, 13 and 15. Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer will share captaincy during the series.
