New Zealand Hit By Double Injury Blow Ahead Of India ODIs; Rachin Ravindra, Mark Chapman Out
New Zealand have been dealt a double blow ahead of the five-match ODI series against India as two of their big guns, Rachin Ravindra and Mark Chapman, have been ruled out due to injuries. The players also missed the T20I leg of the series and failed to recover in time for the ODIs. Chapman was ruled out after he suffered an injury to his left hamstring during the European T20 Premier League and will need at least two weeks of additional rehab to return to the field. Rachin Ravindra, on the other hand, dislocated his shoulder during a promotional shoot and is far from attaining peak fitness. “Everyone knows what an asset Mark and Rachin are to this side so it’s a shame they have to miss this series,” head coach Rob Walter said. “I caught up with Mark last week and although he’s disappointed he’s working hard to get back on the field. With Rachin, his shoulder hasn’t quite recovered to a position where he could field comfortably in white-ball cricket, so with the Test series later this month we don’t want to take any undue risks.” Tim Seifert, who played a whirlwind innings of 93 in the final T20I, has been added to the squad for the first three ODIs. He is already part of the squad for the final two matches, and is expected to play a huge role at the top for New Zealand. Additionally, Henry Nicholas and Dean Foxcroft have also been included, with Henry joining the team for the first three matches and Foxcroft coming in for the last two. Also joining the squad is pacer Matt Fisher who has added to the squad for the first three games, having already been added to the squad for the final two matches. Matt Henry, who was sidelined from the last three T20Is with a low-grade tear in his right quadriceps, will join the squad ahead of the series; however, his inclusion will be subject to fitness.
