R Ashwin didn't hold back and took a dig at the user who tried to troll him over Sanju Samson. An X user highlighted Sanju Samson's below-par form in the five-match T20I series against New Zealand and tagged Ashwin in his post. Ashwin, who is quite active on social media, saw the post and gave it back to the user. "Hello Ashwin Your first choice Sanju flopped throughout the entire series @ashwinravi99," the user wrote. "Sanju is my first choice, he's your full-time obsession," Ashwin responded. The former India captain has often praised Samson, who is now only part of the T20I team. Ashwin also played under Samson's captaincy at Rajasthan Royals (RR) in IPL. Ashwin joined RR in the IPL 2022 mega-auction and played for them till 2024. Samson captained RR to the final of IPL 2022. RR tried to re-sign Ashwin in the IPL 2025 mega-auction but missed out. He joined Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and retired after just one season. RR retained Samson before IPL 2025. He joined CSK via trade before IPL 2026. R Ashwin hasn't been consistent since the 2026 T20 WC. Photo: AP Samson made a dream start to the NZ series and scored 67 off just 33 balls in the first game. He flopped in the next four games and managed scores of 14, 18, 4 and 4 in the next four games, respectively. The team management has persisted with Samson despite his inconsistent performances since the 2026 T20 World Cup. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi only got to play two matches against NZ. He replaced an unfit Ishan Kishan for the second and third T20Is. After managing to score four runs in the second game, Sooryavanshi slammed 49 off just 15 balls in the third game. The 15-year-old was dropped from the playing XI for the last two games despite India clinching the series early. He could continue to stay on the bench in the home series against Sri Lanka as well.
