Ramayana: Bombay High Court Grants Ad-Interim Injunction Protecting Ranbir Kapoor-Yash's Rs 2000 Crore Film
As per Bar And Bench's report, the legal suit sought comprehensive protection over the underlying script, characters, footage, lyrics and recordings of Ramayana. In addition, the Bombay High Court was told that the mythological drama was produced at an outlay of Rs 2,000 crores for Part I, and a total budget of Rs 4,000 crores for the entire two-film franchise. According to the report, Godpower Media Private Limited submitted that despite strict non-disclosure obligations during invite-only preview screenings, leaks of both trailers had been secretly recorded and disseminated on digital networks. The Bombay High Court granted a dynamic injunction restraining unknown ‘John Doe’ entities from unauthorisedly disseminating Ramayana. The Court also ordered ISPs and social media intermediaries to immediately and dynamically block and take down offending links and mirror sites upon written notice. The report further stated that the Counsel representing Google LLC and global social media intermediaries recorded no objection to the order. The Court directed Godpower Media Private Limited to communicate offending URLs leaking the film to internet service providers and platforms, which must immediately take steps to block, disable access to, or take down the infringing content. The next hearing in the case is on December 16. As per the CBFC website, the official synopsis of Ramayana is, "When Rakshasa emperor Ravana, invincible to all but man, conquers the three worlds, Lord Vishnu descends as noble prince Rama. Bound by his father's vow, Rama enters perilous exile with virtuous Sita and devoted Lakshmana. When Ravana abducts Sita, God in human form rises to fight the greatest war ever." Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations, Ramayana also stars Sai Pallavi, Sunny Deol, Ravi Dubey, Rakul Preet Singh, Arun Govil, Lara Dutta and many more.
