Ruturaj Gaikwad Out! India's Likely Playing XI For 1st ODI vs New Zealand
After winning the five-match T20I series 3-2, India will have their eyes on the ODI series. The five-match series will take place from November 4 to 15. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will return to international cricket during the series. They are now only active in ODIs. Ruturaj Gaikwad retained his place for the series. But there are doubts over his place in the playing XI. Before the start of the much-awaited series, here we have a look at India's likely playing XI for the first game - Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma are confirmed to open the innings in the first three games. Shubman and other Test regulars will leave the ODI team after the third game to prepare for the Test series, starting November 19. Rohit will play all five ODIs. Virat Kohli will bat at number three and will be followed by Shreyas Iyer. Vice-captain Iyer will take over the charge for the last two games and lead the Men in Blue. He captained India to a 3-2 win in the T20I series. Ruturaj Gaikwad, who batted in the middle-order against West Indies, is likely to lose his spot. He only got to play against WI in Iyer's absence and will have to make way for him now. Ruturaj could return to the playing XI for the last two games. KL Rahul is set to keep wickets in the ODI series. The right-handed batter has become India's regular wicketkeeper-batter in ODIs since 2023. Kishan is expected to make his return in the playing XI. He will keep wickets once Rahul leaves the squad to prepare for the Test series. Nitish Kumar Reddy will only play one ODI in the series.
